Stock Average Calculator

Find your average buy price across multiple purchases (averaging up/down).

Averaging your cost

When you buy the same stock at different prices, your average cost is the total money spent divided by total shares — not the simple average of the prices. Buying more as the price falls ("averaging down") lowers this figure.

A word of caution

Averaging down into a falling stock only works if the business is sound. Averaging into a deteriorating company just increases your loss — check the fundamentals first.

Frequently asked questions

Should I average down?

Only if your original thesis still holds and the price fall is due to market noise, not a broken business. Otherwise you are throwing good money after bad.
