Nifty Next 50 Stocks List — All Constituents

The Nifty Next 50 — often called the "Junior Nifty" — holds the 50 companies that rank just below the Nifty 50 within the Nifty 100. These are large, established businesses that sit in the waiting room for the headline index, and the list is watched closely because names here are the natural candidates for future Nifty 50 promotion. Constituents are shown below ordered by market capitalisation.

50 constituents, led by Adani Power Limited — a combined market cap of about ₹74.71L cr.

What is the Nifty Next 50?

The Nifty Next 50 represents the 50 companies from the Nifty 100 that are not part of the Nifty 50 — in other words, the large-caps ranked 51st to 100th by size. Like the other broad Nifty indices it is free-float market-capitalisation weighted and maintained by NSE Indices Limited. Because promotions into the Nifty 50 are usually drawn from this pool, the Next 50 is often viewed as a leading indicator of tomorrow's headline constituents, and historically it has behaved with a slightly higher risk-return profile than the Nifty 50 itself.

How investors use the Nifty Next 50

The Next 50 is used as a distinct large-cap building block: paired with the Nifty 50 it reconstructs the full Nifty 100, and on its own it offers exposure to established companies that have not yet reached headline-index size. Investors track it to spot likely Nifty 50 entrants ahead of the semi-annual review, and passive investors can own it through dedicated Next 50 index funds and ETFs to diversify away from the handful of mega-caps that dominate the Nifty 50.

  • Read it as the large-cap tier just beneath the Nifty 50, not as mid-caps.
  • Names near the top are the most likely Nifty 50 promotion candidates.
  • Combine with the Nifty 50 to get full Nifty 100 large-cap coverage.
  • Expect somewhat higher volatility than the Nifty 50 historically.
  • For passive exposure, compare Next 50 funds on tracking error and cost.

What to keep in mind

Because these indices are weighted by free-float market capitalisation, the largest few constituents carry a disproportionate share of the index — so the headline level can be driven by a handful of heavyweight names rather than the average stock. Membership is a size-and-liquidity outcome, not a quality rating or an endorsement: a company is included because it is large and heavily traded, not because it is a good investment. The index itself is a number, not something you can buy directly — you gain exposure through an index fund or ETF that tracks it, which carries its own tracking error and expense ratio.

Frequently asked

What is the Nifty Next 50?
It is the index of the 50 companies in the Nifty 100 that are not in the Nifty 50 — the large-caps ranked 51 to 100 by size. It is nicknamed the "Junior Nifty".
How is the Nifty Next 50 different from the Nifty 50?
The Nifty 50 holds the 50 biggest companies; the Next 50 holds the next 50 largest. Together they form the Nifty 100. The Next 50 is typically a little more volatile.
Do Nifty Next 50 stocks get promoted to the Nifty 50?
Yes — when the Nifty 50 is reconstituted, the companies replacing outgoing constituents are usually drawn from the Next 50, which is why it is watched as a promotion pipeline.
