MCP server overview

Connect DocStoX to Claude, ChatGPT or your coding tools over MCP, so your AI answers questions about Indian stocks with real data.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools on another service. When you connect DocStoX, your assistant can look up prices, results, shareholding, FII flows, screens and F&O data for 5,700+ NSE and BSE stocks. Its answers then come from DocStoX data instead of from the model's memory.

DocStoX runs a remote MCP server. There is nothing to install.

What your assistant gets

  • 93 tools covering prices, company financials, ownership, insider trades, flows, deals, IPOs, news, technicals, themes and derivatives. The tools reference lists every one.
  • Your own data. Tools such as your portfolio and watchlist read the DocStoX account you signed in with.
  • Interactive views in Claude and ChatGPT. Some answers come back as a stock card, chart or screen you can click through, not only as text.

You never call a tool by name. Ask in plain English, and your assistant picks the tools it needs.

Quickstart

  1. Add the server

Follow the steps for your app below. Claude and ChatGPT take about a minute.

  2. Sign in on docstox.com

Your app opens a docstox.com page. Sign in with Google or your DocStoX email and password, then click Allow. No account yet? Create a free one on that same screen.

  3. Ask your question

For example: "Which Nifty 50 stocks fell the most today, and what news was behind the moves?"

Set up your app

For claude.ai and the Claude desktop app. Works on every Claude plan; free plans can add one custom connector.

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors.
  2. Select +, then Add custom connector. Name it DocStoX and paste the server URL. Leave Advanced settings empty, then click Add.
  3. Click Connect. Claude opens docstox.com: sign in and click Allow.
  4. In a chat, open the + menu, then Connectors, and check DocStoX is switched on.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector first in Organization settings, then Connectors. Members then click Connect. Full steps: Connect Claude.

VS Code, Codex, Gemini CLI and Windsurf are covered in Claude Code, Cursor and other clients.

The daily count resets at 00:00 UTC, which is 05:30 IST. When a Free account calls a Pro tool, the tool explains what Pro returns instead of the data, and that call is not counted. The read_me guide tool is never counted.

You can see what you have used at /mcp/keys. Usage and limits has the details.

Read-only, and yours to revoke

  • Nothing is written. Every tool reads data. None can place a trade, move money, or change your portfolio or watchlist.
  • What DocStoX sees is the tool calls your AI makes and their arguments, such as a stock symbol. Not your conversation.
  • Revoke any time. Disconnect an app or revoke a key at /mcp/keys. It stops working on its next call.

The privacy policy covers this under "AI assistant connectors (MCP)".
