Screener

Filter every NSE and BSE listed company down to a shortlist: start from a ready-made screen, build your own conditions, or describe what you want.

The screener checks every listed company against conditions you set, such as "ROE above 15%" or "debt to equity below 0.5", and shows the ones that pass. Use it to turn 5,700+ companies into a list short enough to research properly.

A screen finds companies that match numbers. It does not tell you whether any of them is a good investment. Treat the result as a starting point for research.

Three ways to start

Open Screener from the top bar. The overview offers three starting points, and all three end in the same place: a set of conditions you can see and edit.

The sub-navigation under the top bar has the same destinations: Overview, Ready-made, AI screener and Build your own.

Build a screen

  1. Open the builder

    Go to Build your own. The count at the top shows every company, because you have not set a condition yet.

  2. Set quick filters

    Under Quick filters, fill in only the ones you care about and leave the rest blank:

    • Market cap: Micro, Small, Mid or Large.
    • Sector: one sector, or any.
    • Max P/E: this keeps profitable companies only, since a loss-making company has no meaningful P/E.
    • Min ROE %, Max debt / equity and Min div yield %.

    The match count updates as you type.

  3. Add advanced conditions

    Open Advanced for anything the quick filters do not cover. Here you can:

    • choose from the full metric list, grouped into valuation, profitability, growth, balance sheet, ownership, price, technicals and signals;
    • combine conditions with AND and OR groups;
    • compare a company with its peers, for example "ROE above the sector median";
    • test a trend over time, for example "profit growing three years in a row".
  4. Read the results

    Sort the table with Sort by, choose which metrics appear as columns, and select a company to see why it passed.

Describe a screen in plain English Pro

The AI Screen box at the top of the screener turns a sentence into conditions. For example:

  • "small cap companies with ROCE above 20% and low debt"
  • "large cap companies with PE below 15 and ROE above 15%"
  • "stocks above their 50 day moving average with a volume breakout"

After it runs, a strip shows exactly what was applied, and anything in your sentence that could not be turned into a condition. The conditions it produces are checked the same way as a hand-built screen, and you can edit any of them in the builder.

AI Screen needs you to be signed in and on Pro. If you are on Free, what you typed is kept, so you can upgrade and press Screen again without retyping it.

Understand why a company matched

Select a company in the results (the arrow at the end of its row) to open a side panel with each of your conditions, the company's actual value, and whether it passed. From there you can open the full stock page without losing your screen.

A missing value is shown as a dash, never as zero and never as an estimate. A company with no data for a condition cannot pass it. Sector is always shown, because the same ratio means different things in different industries.

Compare, export and watch

  • Compare: select several companies to see them side by side on your screen's own metrics. The best value in each row is marked where "better" has a clear direction.
  • Export: download the current results, with the columns you are viewing, as a CSV file.
  • Watch: add a company to your watchlist straight from its row.

Save a screen

Use the bookmark button (Save this screen) to keep a screen under a name. Saved screens appear under My screens and Your screens on the overview. You need to be signed in to save.

When you save, you can turn on a daily alert for the screen. Some screens cannot carry an alert: if a screen uses conditions the nightly check cannot run, such as OR groups, or is one of the DocStoX Pro screens, the save dialog tells you and saves the screen without the alert.

What is free

The builder, the results table, comparison, CSV export and the library's analyst screens are free. Three things are part of Pro:

  • AI Screen, described above.
  • AI Score as a column. The score is computed on DocStoX servers, so on Free the column shows a lock.
  • DocStoX Pro screens in the library. Their cards stay readable on Free; opening one takes you to the pricing page.

See Free and Pro for everything else that differs between plans.

How it works

When you open the screener, your browser loads one compressed snapshot of every listed company. Your conditions run on that snapshot inside the browser, which is why the count changes as you type and changing a filter needs no network request.

Every number is the company's own figure, from its financial statements and market data. For when each kind of data updates, see Freshness and update timings.

Why does my count differ from another website's?

Screeners differ in which companies they include (for example SME listings and ETFs), in how they treat missing values, and in the date of the financials they use. DocStoX never fills a missing value with an estimate, so a company with a gap in its data drops out of a screen instead of passing on a guess.
